Basically I bought a new wireless router and didn't know that its default protocol is set to "802.11g 5 GHz". What does all that mean? Please help to resolve this.

Make sure it is turned on. The network could be hidden. Don't really know why but only my newer devices (iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy 4) were able to detect the signal whilst my 2 laptops and my iPhone 4 weren't. Laptop Cannot Detect Wifi Windows 8 Thanks!

The problem is There must be some setting in Windows that got tweaked? It now cannot find my wireless network but it does find my neighbor's. This can be found by going into Device Manager, under network adapter you'll see the wireless driver which should have the manufacture's name included (Intel, Ralink, Qualcomm, etc.). I would even guess that it would work fine with a public network (like McDonalds).
I type all my replies personally and hope you are willing to work on your network issues short of me writing tutorials.
