Yes, that works for me too - but you have to do it every time you connect to the VPN... At my company we are moving onto new hardware and along the way standardizing on SQL Server 2005 x64. As described above, only TCP/IP provider has the issue; hence, configuring network library not to choose TCP/IP is a solution.
