The Winnt.exe file is for DOS. when it would finish and i would run it again it no longer came up with the "retry" so I knew it had replaced them.
Now SFC works properly. This time I went and tried to reinstall XP pro, but half-way through the install, ie into the windows-like installer, it asks for a file located in the i386 folder. It represents a snapshot of the I386 folder from your install CD. I am having the same problem mentioned here with not having desktop icons, task bar or startup menu.

What I do find is a Floppy Drive (which is not connected) a C: Harddrive, and a D: harddrive. I tried the 6 floppy XP boot set & had errors, then I copied the i386 folder to the freshly FAT32 formatted hard drive & ran winnt.exe like you can do If this is your first visit, be sure to check out the FAQ by clicking the link above.
