Well, it appears it has - this and the new beta extension have fixed the problem for me (touchwood). Thanks for your continued help & quick responses, and for providing a solution for me . We think we have narrowed this down to a possible issue with automatic unlock (i.e. "Universal Unlock"). Chrome 16 and version 3.8.9.x of the extension (beta at the time of this writing) seem to do the trick for almost all cases I have seen.

By system design any 32 bit app as Chrome should load the CM plugins, but in this case Chrome is "not interested" and "doesn't know" how to load them. I followed the steps up to number 6 and can report that I had no problems unlocking/testing the 1Password extension at step 6. System Name can be set under "Preferences" -> "Sharing", and the hostname setting is under "Edit..." in the same window. We'd love to hear about it! I'm running GC 16.0.912.41 beta after trying 17 unsuccessfully. I'm now wondering if the problem might partly be down to my unique OS X setup (a PC built to work as a Hackintosh running OS X 10.7.2 - though I've Tried disabling other extensions but it was only this extension that caused the problem.
